LOVE’S GIFT

I gift you this little village -

Which now has the sheen of both the worlds

For two mortals in immortal love

Happened to pass through it.

Dull lanes glisten with glory

Scorched trees have moist eyes

Cacti turned Veronica

Rusty roads stand a singing

Desertous fields dance -

To the heartbeats of newborn buildings.

The devilish orange of the sky

Only rains pink softness

Aimless urchins exude hope

The old look forward

Dreams replacing nostalgia

The young are lusty again.

A sweet breeze has blown off -

The veils of womanish misery

Smiles escape covered faces

Fingers twitch with eagerness

Feet have started walking

Heads at the right place

Hearts are exchanging abodes.

Fertility has wedded the sand

The village has an orchard of life

The mummied humanity

Now drinks from the vineyard of love.

This little hamlet, a freshly alighted piece of heaven

My love, I gift to you.

About Madhavi

Madhavi's first rendezvous with writing was at college. Her scribbling - which she fondly called 'poems' - was proudly and regularly passed on to the like-minded class mates. They would exchange the little slips, dubbing them 'data' in the psychology class, and savour each other’s badly cooked write ups. After about four years of such expressions of passionate thoughts, there came a grand lull in her writing. It took a decade for Madhavi to pick up writing again with zeal and zest and, as a result, in the past few years she has written over fifty articles which were published in the editorial columns worldwide.
